Top 5 Celiac Friendly Pizza Restaurants in Denver

by Kayla King

Ever get to a pizza restaurant and get so excited when they have a gluten free option on the menu? Then you find out it’s completely cross contaminated and you actually can’t have it. Happens to me all the time. Well, fear not because these 5 restaurants are pros with cross contact and will go above and beyond to make sure your gluten free pie is safe.

5. California Pizza Kitchen

3000 E 1st Ave, Denver, CO 80206
(303) 388-5686

All CPK locations use a strict procedure approved by The Gluten Intolerance Group. They have a certified gluten free cauliflower crust and gluten free toppings verified by their suppliers. They were one of the first large chains to get on board with celiac safe pizza’s.

4. Mellow Mushroom

1201 16th St Mall #108, Denver CO 80202
(720) 328-9114

Mellow Mushroom has some of the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever tasted and they make sure to separate the pie out in the oven and use a separate slicer to cut it. They also have all gluten free items marked on the menu and can make any pie gluten free.

3. Crush Pizza + Tap

1200 W 38th Ave, Denver, CO 80211
(720) 619-3337

Gluten free deep dish is hard to nail but Crush Pizza and Tap makes you feel like you aren’t even eating the gluten free version. Their gluten free crusts are locally sourced by a dedicated GF facility – Gluten Free Explorer and although they use the same oven they use separate utensils, surfaces, and pans for the gluten free pies. They are extremely careful about cross contact and many sensitive Celiacs eat here regularly.

2. Happy Camper

3211 N Pecos St, Denver, CO 80211
(720) 259-1044

Happy Camper is my go to for pizza because they have little personal sized gluten free pizzas which is hard to find. Usually gluten free pies only come in one size so I like that they make a small one since others don’t always want to order the gluten free one like me. They also are super careful about cross contact here. Even though it is in the same oven they use separate utensils, slicers, and pans to bake the pizza.

1. Abrusci’s Fire & Vine

2200 Youngfield St, Lakewood, CO 80215
(303) 232-2424

Even though this local Italian restaurant is a bit outside Denver it’s 110% worth the trip. They can make almost everything on their menu gluten free (my favorite is the calamari and chicken parmesan) and they are serious about cross contact. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer, cutting board, knife, and pizza oven. They keep all gluten free pizza ingredients on the opposite side of the kitchen. All their gluten free products are sourced from a local gluten free bakery that has a dedicated facility. If you have Celiac this is the place for you. The closest you can get to guaranteed safety.
